Say What Now of the Day
Say What Now of the Day: The owner and publisher of an Atlanta-based Jewish newspaper issued an apology today after penning an op-ed calling on Israel to consider assassinating President Obama as a response to a nuclear Iran.
“I very much regret it, I wish I hadn’t made reference to it at all,” said Andrew Adler of the Atlanta Jewish Times.
His column, published last week, listed three options for Israel in the case that Iran is successful in obtaining nuclear weapons.
The first was a preemptive strike against terrorist groups potentially emboldened by Iran’s nuclear arms. The second, a strike on Iran aimed at crippling its nuclear infrastructure. And the third response put forth by Adler: Sending Mossad agents to remove the president in order to send a message “that the United States policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies.”
Adler told the JTA a printed apology would appear in the paper’s next edition, adding that readers were “overwhelmingly negative” in their response to the column.
